The reason why both of these records were toppled was Bhanu Pania.
Bhanu Pania’s record-breaking day in Indore
Four of Baroda’s batters struck at a higher strike rate than him, but none even scored 50% of the runs he did. It was his 134 runs (in 51 balls) and a whopping 15 sixes that took Baroda to the record-breaking total and eventually helped them qualify for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25 quarterfinals.
Taking inspiration from Hardik & Krunal Pandya
What Bhanu did was incredible, and one of the reasons why he was able to help Baroda create history was Hardik Pandya. Although just three years younger than the star all-rounder, Bhanu finds Hardik “his inspiration.” “I try to do what is the same as what Hardik Pandya does. He’s a big inspiration for me. I see and watch what he does,” Bhanu Pania told InsideSport exclusively.
He added that along with elder brother Krunal, Hardik has tried to imbibe a culture of putting the team over self. Both the Pandya brothers are the biggest success stories from Baroda, having both represented the Indian cricket team and Hardik has even lifted the T20 World Cup trophy. They are trying to take the Baroda team to another level and have been successful in doing so as well. “Always keep the team over yourself. The team has to win; it doesn’t matter who scores or takes wickets,” he added.

Hardik Pandya never makes us feel that a big star has come: Bhanu Pania
No doubt Hardik Pandya’s a superstar, but when representing Baroda, he’s just one of the players in the squad. He doesn’t change one bit, whether talking to Virat Kohli or Bhanu Pania himself. “He is very jolly. He jokes around with all of us and behaves the same way as the Indian cricket team players as a normal player. He never makes us feel that a big star has come. He comes to my room; I go to if I want to ask him anything,” the Baroda batter described Hardik’s down-to-earth behaviour.
Wants to play for Mumbai Indians
The 28-year-old had registered himself for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction, but no team shortlisted him, and therefore his name didn’t come up in Jeddah. But with some spots left and chances of coming as an injury replacement, Bhanu can still play for a team in IPL 2025. Which team does he wish to represent? Whichever team “his inspiration” plays for, he says. “I want to play in Hardik bhaiya’s team, the Mumbai Indians,” Bhanu stated.
