In August 2024, during a Delhi Premier League T20 (DPLT20) match, Priyansh Arya did something out of the ordinary. Representing South Delhi Superstarz, Arya unleashed a blistering 120 runs off just 50 balls. His remarkable innings included the rare feat of hitting six consecutive sixes in an over, a milestone achieved by only a select few in the sport. This explosive knock, combined with Ayush Badoni’s stellar batting, led to a monumental 286-run stand, making the side the first team to have a 300+ total (308/5) in 20 overs. However, little does everyone know that Suryakumar Yadav messaged Arya after his heroics in Delhi.

What did Suryakumar Yadav say to Priyansh Arya?
Arya’s extraordinary display did not go unnoticed. India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, reached out to Arya with a heartfelt message. In his communication, Yadav described Arya’s batting as “total entertainment” and encouraged the young cricketer to maintain his self-belief. Reflecting on this interaction, Arya expressed, “After I did so, Suryakumar Yadav messaged me and said that my batting was total entertainment and asked me to keep believing in myself. It was quite motivating for me.”
Arya had a superb DPLT20, where he ended up as the highest run-getter with 608 runs at an average of 67.5 and at a strike rate close to 200. The performance in the national capital surely put some eyeballs on him, with him getting lucrative offer at the IPL 2025 mega auction. A fierce bidding war ensued between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), culminating in PBKS securing Arya’s talents for a substantial ₹3.8 crore.

Joining PBKS presents Arya with the opportunity to work under the guidance of head coach Ricky Ponting and captain Shreyas Iyer. Both Ponting (head coach) and Iyer will be representing PBKS for the first time as well. Expressing his enthusiasm, Arya remarked, “I am really excited to meet head coach Ricky Ponting. I love his pull shot. Apart from that, I am also excited to meet Shreyas. I love his attitude and the way he walks.” He further lauded Iyer’s leadership qualities, noting, “I think he is a great leader; he has won IPL and all domestic trophies as a captain. So I feel he is the best leader.”
