The condition of the India Cricket Team is in tatters. The team has suffered two back-to-back Test series losses. First at home to New Zealand (3-0) and then the Border Gavaskar Trophy (3-1). Questions have also been raised about captain Rohit Sharma – his poor batting form and captaincy. However, former India star Yuvraj Singh has come out to defend the Hitman.

Rohit’s former teammate Yuvraj was totally in support of him. He argued to the press to look at the greater picture. He claimed under Rohit’s captaincy, India won the ICC T20 World Cup and reached the finals of the ODI World Cup. Even in the IPL, MI had won the trophy 5 times.

Yuvraj Singh comes to aid for former Teammate

“I always look at the team graph over a five-year period or three years. Gautam has just come into the system, he needs more time. Rohit Sharma has won the T20 World Cup as captain, he was captain when India played the ODI World Cup final. He led MI (Mumbai Indians) to five IPL titles,” Yuvraj Singh told the press at an event.

Yuvraj also appreciated and spoke about the selfless nature of Rohit. He claimed that Rohit knew about his poor form and thus he dropped himself for the Sydney Test. “The guy has stepped down from the last match and given somebody else a chance. How many captains have done that in the past? Please tell me,” he asked.

Yuvraj also pointed out to think about the positives from the BGT. He claimed that the series loss “is a tougher pill to swallow”. But the southpaw was incredibly impressed with how the youngsters performed. He went on to laud praises for Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Kumar Reddy who scored centuries on their maiden tour of Australia.

“Nitish scored a hundred on his first tour, it is amazing. Not sure how many have done that. Jaiswal scored 150 plus in his first Test in Australia, it is highly commendable. We should talk about these performances more,” Yuvraj concluded.
